Craps: the house edge of every bet
The pass line wins 49.29% of the time, which gives the casino 1.41% of each stake. The odds bet you can add behind it has no house edge at all. The one-roll bets in the middle of the table cost many times more.

The free odds bet
Once a point is set, you may add an odds bet behind your pass or don't pass bet. It is paid at the true odds of the point, so it carries no house edge. Adding odds lowers the average cost of your total stake, although the pass bet itself still costs 1.41%.
The bets to avoid
Any seven pays 4 to 1 on an outcome that comes up once in six rolls; its house edge is 16.67%. The hardways and any craps are not much cheaper. Place bets on 6 and 8, at 1.52%, are the cheapest of the place bets.

Is don't pass better than pass?
Very slightly: 1.36% against 1.41%, because a 12 on the come-out roll is a push instead of a win.
